Ice Rescue Training

Matthew - a firefighter with the Kentland Fire Department - prepares for Ice Rescue training with the Fire Department. The suit he is wearing protects him from the water's frigid temperatures. (Yes, he actually gets in the water.) Training was held at the new pond in Kentland. Other firefighters cut a large hole in the ice to allow Matthew and other FFs to get into the water. The air temp was 17 degrees, plus very high winds.

The thought of going into dark, freezing water is totally unappealing. I'm glad there are first responders who ARE prepping to do it. Shudder!
